Twenty-Six Percent

President Obama said today that the White House is willing to listen to good solutions to big problems, so here I go…

Problem:  Affordable Quality Health Care For Everyone In The United States

To prepare our society for the beyond the twentieth century, they first need to get into the twenty-first as mentioned by the President at his recent address to the nation.

Suggestion = Give some public gathering places and/or government offices public computers (restricted to political, environmental, educational, factual news stories, and historical information) so that any citizen may actually READ all the transparent information placed on-line by this forward-thinking administration. This way, even elders may have access to those government archives or bills going through the legislature and our children will have factual and timely information to supplement their education.

I realize that the public library is a good source of computer use; however, it is not open 24 hours a day. Nor does it give every person access. Case in point: Recently, I visited my local library to use the computer. As I was checking back out, another citizen wanted to apply for a library card so she could use the computers or check out books. The librarian performed an honest job trying to qualify the lady for the library card, but the lady only had residency for a certain number of months out of the year and was not a permanent resident of the county. Sadly, the lady was denied computer access and county services. Computers need to be unhackable archive quality information to prevent misuse, but hey, don’t we have people who can do this job?

Along this same suggestion line and on the subject of computers, I have to explain. Most households do not OWN a computer. According to the last good information I had on this subject, only 26% or so have consistent use of computers in homes. And, because of the economy, handheld web phones have dramatically reduced use. Now, these numbers may go up or down, but they are a pretty good picture of where we are in this country for technological advances. Why?

One of the main reasons why we have not advanced our society with technology is that our population is getting older as we speak! Many in our elder society either do not understand HOW to use the computer or they think it is just a nuisance. It should be as easy as 1-2-3 so they have the opportunity to adjust to the rapid pace of the micro-world. How?

Just as I said earlier, we should put computers in easy access places (hip level with seats and no seats for disabled) so citizens feel comfortable being around technology and have no difficulty going up to the machines to find out what is going on in the world around them. Our children will also benefit from this design as they will read real-world and current information.

But, what does all this have to do with health care? Let me explain. After everyone has access to the information on-line, they will also be allowed to produce even better solutions. Not only that, the citizens of this country will have a point of access for all things local, state, and federal. We will no longer need to update files or send information through the mail. Everything…and I mean everything, will be on-line. This point of unhackable access is a U.S. INTRANET. If citizens wish to access the INTERNET, they may get their own computer.

What happens when we allow our citizens to enter their own information and receive information on-line? It frees up resources so we may use them elsewhere. So, how much of these resources will this free and where will they go? According to daily information on the television, medicare, medicaid, and social security are the largest recipients of federal tax dollars. Which, by the way, the President said today on the television is where most of our deficit resides.

What does this mean for all that defense spending budget? Does this mean that they (American Citizens Last I Heard) will be allowed to enter their information on-line and receive it too? This also allows people to put down hand-helds or laptops and use those found in public places. This, in turn, will create freedom from carrying around those pesky hot boxes. Some people are addicted to them, but as we have come to learn, there are some instances where these devices are an encumbrance.

For the finale I'd like to say a little bit about how all this might help us all receive affordable quality health care. Ok, so after the above process, we have access to all that on-line information and find out how much procedures cost, how much machines cost, how much everything costs to have every single citizen receive affordable quality health care in the U.S. If you read long enough, punch the numbers yourself, talk to your local doctor and hospital and ambulance driver, you will find out that if every single income producer were to pay approximately $25.00 per month (you do not get this back), each and every person in our great nation can receive affordable quality health care at any time of the day or night for life. Do the math yourself. It is enlightening.

So, why would you not pay $25.00 out of a month's worth of pay so everyone could have affordable quality health care? All you have to do is say, "Yes, I can."

Does this help?
